IQNA – Following the martyrdom of senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayyah’s son, the movement said that targeting the children of Palestinian leaders will not disrupt the path of resistance.

The cowardly crime of the Zionist regime that targeted Azzam al-Hayyah, the son of the head of the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip and the head of the negotiating team Dr. Khalil al-Hayyah is a continuation of the occupiers’ approach of targeting civilians and families of Palestinian leaders, Hamas said in a statement on Thursday.

It is an approach that is pursued within the framework of failed attempts to influence the will of the resistance and its political positions through assassination, murder, and psychological pressure, the statement noted.

The contradiction and confusion in the Zionist narrative about the assassination operation shows the level of turmoil and crisis in the occupying regime, and clearly states that this crime was committed within the framework of exerting pressure on the resistance leadership and the negotiating team after the occupation regime failed to impose its conditions and achieve its stated goals, Hamas stated.

Another part of the statement said Khalil al-Hayyah and the negotiating team were previously targeted in a criminal assassination attempt in Doha, during which a number of children of the Palestinian nation and the beloved nation of Qatar were martyred; including his other son, martyr Hammam al-Hayyah.

This crime shows that the occupiers insist on targeting anyone who adheres to the rights of the Palestinian nation and its national principles, it said.

The statement emphasized, “The Palestinian people, who have sacrificed tens of thousands of martyrs, will never allow the occupying regime to use the blood of their children and families as a means of political blackmail, and these crimes will not force the Palestinian negotiators to retreat from their principles or to abandon the rights of the Palestinian people to stop the aggression, end the siege, and completely withdraw from the Gaza Strip.”

Hamas also said targeting the children of Palestinian leaders will not only not weaken the resistance's position, but will increase its commitment to the rights of the Palestinian people and its insistence on achieving these rights, and will deepen popular support for the resistance, because the resistance pays the same price that the Palestinian people throughout the Gaza Strip bear, and just as the Palestinian people sacrifice their children and families, so do the leaders of the resistance.

In conclusion, Hamas emphasized that the blood of the martyrs will continue to be a factor in the stability and perseverance of the Palestinian people and will be an incentive to continue defending legitimate national rights until freedom is achieved and the occupation ends.
