Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Monday, Esmaeil Baghaei said the measures that the Manama government has taken over the past two months under the pretext of Bahrainis expressing sympathy for the Iranian people or holding mourning ceremonies for the Shia clerics are all examples of human rights violations.
Referring to the revocation of citizenship from a number of Bahraini citizens, he described such a move as a punishment that has been criticized by human rights organizations for years.
He added that such an action is considered contrary to the fundamental principles of human rights.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman said the Islamic Republic of Iran has clearly stated its positions on this issue in line with respecting human beings and upholding human rights standards.
“We believe that these actions by Bahrain are contrary to human rights regulations and obligations.”
Beghaei emphasized that Bahraini authorities must respect the rights of their people, because hurting the feelings of the majority of the Bahraini population will definitely not be in the interest of the stability and security of that country.

Elsewhere in the press conference, in response to a question about Egypt sending fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates, Baghaei said, “Our relations with Egypt are based on mutual respect, and contacts between the two countries’ foreign ministers are ongoing. What concerns regional security and stability is a matter for the regional countries. Our principled position is that any intervention that harms regional security and undermines regional trust is rejected; it does not matter which actor carries it out.”
