
Organized by the Dar-ol-Quran Center of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine, it is slated for June 5-12, 2026.
The Islamic Republic of Iran will compete in the prestigious Quranic event with four representatives, two qaris and two memorizers.
Vahid Khazaei, an expert in the Quran Affairs Center of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, said Yousef Jafarzadeh from Hormozgan Province and Omid Hosseininejad from Khorasan Razavi Province will compete for Iran in the category of Quran recitation.
He said Mohammad Laeini from Mazandaran and Amir Hossein Attarzadeh from Yazd will participate in the category of memorization of the entire Quran.
Referring to the selection method, he said the Karbala Grand Prize is an independent competition in which a number of reciters from Islamic countries are selected and participate every year by sending a recitation file.
However, he noted, this year, an official invitation was sent to Iran by the Astan to send Iranian reciters and memorizers.

In order to select Iran’s representatives, the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization conducted an evaluation process among the participants in last year’s nationwide Quran competition, and a list of the first to eighth place winners in the recitation and memorization categories was reviewed, he said.
By considering certain components and indicators, these four Quran activists were selected to participate in the Karbala competition under the supervision of the Committee for Inviting and Dispatching Reciters, the expert went on to say.
