IQNA – The holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf, Iraq, announced the beginning of a project to write a precious copy of Nahj al-Balagha, the first project of its kind in the Islamic world.

The holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf, Iraq, announced the beginning of a project to write a precious copy of Nahj al-Balagha, the first project of its kind in the Islamic world.

The Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Department of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Ali’s (AS) holy shrine, under the supervision of Sayed Issa Al-Khursan, the custodian of the holy shrine, has begun the project to write a treasured and precious copy of the book Nahj al-Balagha.

In an interview with the Astan’s News Center, Karrar Jasib, head of the Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Department, said Nahj al=Balagha is a precious work transmitted from the Commander of the Faithful (AS).

This project is part of a series of special works and publications that combine artistic originality with the needs and tastes of the contemporary audience, he stated.

Jasib added, “This new edition is a distinguished and unprecedented project that has not been carried out before with such a level of order, precision and care.”

He also noted that the Astan has provided numerous services to Nahj al-Balagha over the past years, including writing, researching and compiling specialized lists.

He emphasized that the goal of this project is to present an exquisite edition that, while in harmony with contemporary taste, also preserves the authenticity of the Islamic heritage.

According to him, this is the first edition prepared under the direct supervision and care of the Astan.

The Astan’s calligrapher, Hazem al-Helou, said this project will use the original and traditional methods of writing treasured manuscripts.

Paper, ink, pen and decorations are all selected from natural and special materials to be in harmony with the schools of calligraphy and the authentic traditions used in writing the Holy Quran and exquisite works, he noted.

He explained that the implementation of this project will take about a year and a group of the most prominent calligraphers of the Astan will participate in it.

“This work will be organized in three volumes; like the original and ancient manuscripts that were compiled based on the authoritative schools of calligraphy.”

He added that each page will contain 14 lines, which was chosen with the intention and blessing of the names of the fourteen infallibles (peace be upon them).

Nahj al-Balagha is considered one of the most important intellectual, literary and cognitive sources in Islamic heritage and contains the sermons, letters and wisdom of the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (AS).
