
Youssef Belmahdi, the Awqaf minister, officiated the ceremony to launch the Summer Quran School for the year 1447-1448 AH/2026 at the ministry's headquarters, Al-Alam reported.
Officials from the central administration, directors of religious affairs and Awqaf throughout the country, and members of the Quran recitation committees, Iqra councils, mosque education, and provincial scientific councils attended the ceremony either in person or via video conference.
Belmahdi stated at the ceremony that the Summer Quran School is an annual educational and promotional activity that the ministry has been organizing and developing for nearly two decades, with the aim of taking advantage of the summer holidays of students and young people for those who wish to join this educational space.
He added that the Quranic education system has witnessed a significant expansion in recent years, with more than 200 Quranic schools and more than 600 zawiyas (traditional Quranic education centers) hosting about 1.2 million people, including 500,000 who registered during the past year, and supervised by more than 54,000 qualified employees and volunteers.
According to the Awqaf minister, following the organizational and logistical arrangements that the ministry has been carrying out for weeks, the number of people benefiting from this school is expected to increase this year.

Belmahdi emphasized that this space is no longer limited to memorizing the Quran, but has become a comprehensive educational system that includes moral education, fun activities and personal development.
He also stated that the Summer Quran School helps strengthen national spirit among young people by connecting them to important historical and national events, especially Independence and Youth Day and plays a role in protecting young people from negative phenomena and abnormalities by instilling authentic Islamic values.
He went on to say that this space also attracts Algerians living abroad during the summer holidays and strengthens their connection with their homeland and their religious and national values.
Belmahdi also announced the integration of the Algerian online recitation platform into the summer Quranic school program, which will allow for distance learning of the Quran.
