15 Million Expected to Attend Martyred Leader’s Funeral in Mashhad
Seyed Hassan Hossein said he expected attendance of 15 million people at the procession.
Speaking at a meeting of the Mashhad City Administrative Council on Monday, he said the country is ready for the great and history-making event of the funeral of the martyred Leader.
The city of Mashhad has been the source of many important historical, political, and cultural events in Iran and this event is also a turning point in the history of Mashhad, he stated.
“We must all help it be held in the best possible way. Fortunately, the city of Mashhad has a lot of capacity and we must host the pilgrims and guests of this ceremony well. These guests are a great blessing for the city of Mashhad and right now 80% of the city's hotel capacity is full.”
Hosseini continued, “We will equip the funeral route properly and we predict that 15 million people will attend the funeral. ... The governorate is supporting the ceremony and we have prepared (necessary) data-x-items to welcome the people.”

He added that regarding the accommodation of the pilgrims, the city has equipped accommodation for 1.5 million people and “we are ready to increase this amount. We predict that the pilgrims and guests of the funeral ceremony will be present in the city for up to a week. We have never witnessed this level of presence of this crowd in the city of Mashhad before and we should not be surprised.”
