Sheikh Awad Al-Faradi, Inspiring Qari of Egypt’s ‘State of Recitation’
With a firm face and a voice that showed the effect of decades of familiarity with the Holy Quran, he stood on the stage of the ‘State of Recitation’ at the age of 87 to emphasize that memorizing and teaching the Quran knows no age limit and that the people of the Quran will remain a source of role models and inspiration, Al-Masraway reported.
Al-Faradi, from Abu Homs in Egypt’s Bahira Governorate, received special recognition from the jury during his participation in the program and was given extra time, and the judges praised his mastery of the rules of recitation and his skillful performance.
They also encouraged the participants to benefit from the Egyptian qari’s experience in reciting the Quran, which reflects his scholarly stature and long history in serving the Book of God.
Al-Faradi’s Quranic journey was not easy. He grew up an orphan and his circumstances forced him to work as a farmer from an early age, which delayed his memorization of the Quran; but over the years, he made a decision that changed his life. He made the Quran his path and way of life and dedicated himself to memorizing, reciting, and meditating on the divine verses.
The Egyptian man did not stop at mastering recitation; he also learned Quranic sciences, the rules of Tajweed, and various readings of the Quran. He devoted about six hours a day to reviewing and reciting the Quran until he became one of the most prominent Quran teachers in Abu Homs.
He opened a Quran memorization school for children in his neighborhood with a small fee and served as the imam of the congregation at the Tahrir Mosque in Abu Homs.
Over the years, he successfully taught generations of Quran reciters and taught many others to read and write.
The Egyptian reciter became famous for his melodious voice and mastery of the rules of recitation.
He said that his participation in the TV program came after the encouragement of his student, Sheikh Ahmed Amer, who informed him that registration for the program was open. He decided to test himself in the program despite competing with participants who were decades younger than him.
A-Faradi explained that the late reciter Sheikh Mustafa Ismail is his role model in the world of recitation due to his unique style and Quranic school that has influenced generations of reciters.

Al-Faradi’s presence on the “State of Recitation” program sparked a wave of pride among the people of Bahira Governorate, especially the residents of Abu Homs and his students, who called for a special celebration for him at Al-Tahrir Mosque, the largest mosque in the region, in appreciation of his decades of dedication to teaching the Quran.
It is worth noting that the second season of the “State of Recitation” program, which began in Egypt a few weeks ago, continues to discover and nurture talented reciters from different governorates in Egypt.
This program is produced in cooperation with the Ministry of Awqaf and Al-Mutahidah Media Services Company, with the aim of supporting memorizers of the Quran and promoting the culture of correct recitation according to the rules of Tajweed.
