Iran Names Representative in Malaysia Int’l Quran Contest
Asghar Khosravi Sahlabadi, head of the Competition Department of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization’s Quranic Affairs Center told IQNA that Seyed Sadeq Moslemi will compete for Iran in the international event.
Khosravi Sahlabadi said the 66th International Al-Quran Recitation and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA) will be held in Malaysia from October 4 to 10, 2026.
According to the announcement of the Committee for Inviting and Dispatching Quran Reciters, Seyed Sadeq Moslemi, a qari who came second in the 48th National Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran, will be sent to Malaysia to compete for Iran, he stated.
Based on the invitation sent from Malaysia, Iran was invited to send representatives in the two divisions of women and men in the category of Quran recitation, Khosravi noted.
He said it in not possible to send a reciter in the women’s division due to some religious issues, adding that no invitation was sent for Iran send representatives in the memorization category.
Therefore, he said, Iran will only compete in the recitation category in the men’s division of the Malaysian Quranic event.
He also noted that the Malaysian Quran contest is held in two virtual and in-person stages.
“In the virtual stage, each reciter will recite for about two minutes and then, after being evaluated by the judges, the (best ones) will be selected to participate in the in-person stage.”

Last year, the 65th International Al-Qur’an Recitation and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA) took place in Kuala Lumpur’s World Trade Center from August 2 to 9.
The event brought together 71 participants from 49 countries and featured both recitation and memorization categories.
