Experience, Technical Effort Basis for Participating in World’s Oldest Int’l Quran Contest
Seyed Sadeq Moslemi told IQNA that since being selected to represent Iran in the prestigious competition, he has maintained his preparation for participating in this international event by continuous planning and using the guidelines of experts and those who have the experience of competing in this contest in previous years.
As for the reason why he has been selected as Iran’s representative, he noted that according to the common procedure, the first place winner of Iran’s National Quran Competition will be introduced to participate in the Islamic Republic of Iran International Quran Competition and the second place winner will be introduced to participate in the Malaysian International Quran Competition.
“Therefore, immediately after the end of the 48th National Quran Competition, which was hosted by Kurdistan Province last year and I managed to win second place in the recitation category, I began a coherent plan to maintain and improve my technical preparation.”
He added, “It was expected that, as in previous periods, in addition to individual plans, relevant institutions would also plan to prepare reciters for the Malaysian competition, but given the country's conditions after the third imposed war, some of these plans were postponed or could not be implemented.”
Asked whether briefing sessions were held to familiarize him with the rules and regulations of the competition, given the difference between the regulations of the Malaysian competition and other international contest, he said, “I have been in contact with experts and professors of the dispatch committee as well as the Quranic Affairs Center of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, although mainly virtually, and I have benefited from their guidelines and specialized tips. I hope that when the conditions are ready, especially in the days leading up to the dispatch, I will be able to participate in in-person briefing sessions as well.”
Regarding benefiting from the experiences of past Iranian representatives in the Malaysian competition, he said that naturally, using the experience of previous participants is an important part of the preparation process.
“Fortunately, in the joint meetings I had with Mohsen Ghassemi, last year's representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Malaysian competition, I gained valuable information about the atmosphere prevailing in the competition, the way they were held, and the points that should be considered when attending the contest.”

He added, “Also, in detailed discussions with Seyed Mostafa Hosseini, the top reciter of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s International Quran Competition and Iran’s representative in previous editions of the Malaysian competition, I have benefited from valuable advice and technical tips in the field of recitation.”
The 66th International Al-Quran Recitation and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA) is planned in two stages: virtual and in-person. The in-person stage of this competition will be held from October4-10, 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.
Last year, the Quranic event brought together 71 participants from 49 countries and featured both recitation and memorization categories.
