Thai Shia Muslims Mourn Imam Hussein’s (AS) Martyrdom Anniversary

On the occasion of martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), Shia Muslims in Thailand hold mourning ceremonies in the first 10 days of .Muharram

 According to IQNA’s branch in East Asia, all mosques and Husseyniyyahs (public halls for holding religious gatherings) in various parts of Thailand, particularly in Bangkok, the capital city, as well as the Southern parts of the country hold mourning ceremonies on the occasion.

Muharram mourning ceremonies are one of the greatest gatherings of Thai Shia Muslims which, according to scholars and intellectuals of the country, are very influential in strengthening religious beliefs of the people and their spiritual promotion.

The Shia Muslims of the country also attend marches on the 9th and 10th days of the month (Tasu’a and ‘Ashura) to hold mourning rituals.

Similar mourning ceremonies are being held at the Iranian Cultural Center in Bangkok by Iranian Muslims residing in the city.

The first and the second nights of the ceremony were attended by Iranian ambassador to Thailand, Iranian cultural attaché and members of the Iranian embassy as well as the Iranian school in Bangkok.

Quran recitation, Ashura pilgrimage, speeches by Hojat-ol-Islam Arab Bafrani, Iranian preacher, elegies and mourning rituals were some parts of the program.

The center hosts the mourning ceremonies until the 10th of Muharram.
