A leading Shia figure in Egypt denied reports in some media about a planned gathering of 100,000 Shias at Al-Hussein (AS) Mosque in Cairo.

Sayyid Hussein Al-Hashimi, who is a member of the Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) Assembly, said reports that 100,000 Shias will gather at the mosque on the Day of Ahsura (Thursday, November 14) are baseless, Buratha news agency reported.

He said such reports are aimed at fomenting discord among Shias and Sunnis in Egypt at a time when the country is going through a sensitive stage.

A number of other Shia leaders had also previously denied the rumors about the gathering at Al-Hussein (AS) Mosque.

They said it could part of a Zionist plot hatched with the aim of provoking tension among Egyptians.

They underlined that Shias like other Muslims respect the sanctity of mosques, a sanctity that requires avoiding any tension and incidents that disturb peace.
