Tehran’s substitute Friday prayers leader said commitment to principles and values in the nuclear negotiations will not impede reaching an agreement.

Ayatollah Movahedi-Kermani made the remark in his Friday prayers sermon on December 13, adding that experience shows that the greater commitment to principles and values, the greater will be the power and magnificence of the Islamic Republic in the eyes of the enemies.

He said the Iranian delegation in the talks between Iran and the G5+1 (5 permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) are vigilant and revolutionary and that they should use the opportunity to show the beauties of the Islamic Revolution along with the negotiations.

The senior cleric also said one should not be deceived by the smiles and handshakes but should realize that the main reason behind the US enmity with Iran is the country’s Islamic identity.

“They are the enemies of Islam and know that the foundation of the Islamic Republic (of Iran) is rejecting domination.”

He said the hostility of the US and the arrogant powers against Iran is aimed at confronting the rising power of Islam in the world.

Ayatollah Movahedi-Kermani urged the Iranian negotiating team to strive to protect the Islamic Revolution’s values and aspirations because retreating from these aspirations and values would mean retreating from the principles of the Islamic Republic.

He also criticized the US president’s anti-Iranian remarks right after the agreement between Iran and G5+1, especially Obama’s emphasis on the military option being on the table and his denial of Iran’s right to enriching uranium.

Ayatollah Movahedi-Kermani said such remarks show that the negotiations have had no effects in reducing hostilities.

Elsewhere in his sermon, Tehran’s substitute Friday prayers leader referred to Imam Khamenei’s meeting with members of the Supreme Cultural Revolution Council earlier this week’s and stressed that as the Supreme Leader put it, culture and cultural values form a nation’s identity.
