Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Kazem Mousavi told IQNA that registration that had began during the holy month of Ramadan (July) concluded last week.
He said more than 300,000 individuals have applied to take part in courses for learning memorization of one to three Juzes (parts) of the Quran.
He said according to the initial planning, the courses would be held for 260,000 individuals and the rest can attend courses in the next stage.
Hojat-ol-Islam Mousavi noted that the participants will take an oral exam in February and a written one in May and those who pass the exam will receive certificates.
According to the cleric, the courses are organized in holy sites under the supervision of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization.
As well as the Awqaf and Charity Organization, a number of other institutions and government bodies are involved in the development of Quran memorization in society. They include the Education Ministry and the Quran and Etrat Deputy of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
