Croatia to Host Quran Memorizers from Balkans

The first Quran competition for Muslims of the Balkans will be held next week in Croatia.

The Islamic Center of the city of Rijeka will host the event on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, Akhbar Al-Yawm website reported.

The Awqaf (endowments) and Islamic Affairs Ministry of Qatar will cooperate in organizing the competition.

Quran memorizers from countries like Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and Macedonia will take part in the Quranic event.

Yusuf Saliti, head of the organizing committee, said the contest aims to enhance relations among the region’s Muslims, serve the Book of God, and promote values such as humanity and harmony.

He added that winners of the competition will receive cash prizes from the organizing committee at the closing ceremony.
