Al-Azhar to Launch Satellite Network to Confront Extremisms

Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamci Center plans to launch a satellite TV network to confront extremist ideas.

Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, said the center will be launched in three months, cameroonvoice.fr website reported.

He said the TV network will air programs in Arabic, English, French and German with the aim of fighting radical Takfiri ideas and promoting moderation.

The Sheikh of Al-Azhar also talked about plans for reviewing the university’s courses and education materials in order to elevate the university’s educational level.

He further said the Al-Azhar University played a major role in drafting Egypt’s new constitution, which is set to be put to referendum later this month.

Al-Tayyeb said Al-Azhar will not allow any person or group to disrespect Egypt’s laws or its Islamic identity.
