The winners are Sulaiman Saleh from Ikara LGA and Wasila Haliru from Sabon Gari LGA. They are to represent the state at the national Quranic recitation competition slated for February 2014 in Jigawa State.
Two male judges and two female judges also got hajj seats. Governor Ramalan Yero who announced the rewards during the closing ceremony of the event congratulated them and urged them to use their knowledge to help other Muslims.
"As the tradition of the state government demands, we have decided to give out hajj seats to the first and second winners in the male and female categories. Hajj seats will also be given to two male judges and two female judges that officiated the competition and one hajj seat is for the recitation committee, making a total of nine seats," he said. The governor also gave out cash rewards to all the 241 contestants.
In his remarks, Justice Muhammad Tukur Mu'azu of the state High Court who represented the chairman of the occasion, Justice Tanimu Zailani, said it was impressive to see how young children read the Quran. He charged the participants to always put the fear of Allah in them and desist from learning the Quran for pride.
