The Human Rights Center of Bahrain described the ruling as a move that signifies the regime’s sectarian war against Bahraini Shias, Al-Wefaq Society’s website reported.
The center underlined that the council played a prominent role in raising awareness, promoting the culture of tolerance, and strengthening national unity in Bahrain.
Secretary General of Al-Wefaq Society Sheikh Ali Salman said the regime’s move was a negative message to the nation and to the opposition.
He described the dissolving of the council as a war waged against Shias, stressing that there are many attempts underway to isolate Shias in the country.
Meanwhile, head of the council Majid Mash’al dismissed the ruling as an oppressive measure and said it aimed to discourage people from pursuing their legitimate demands.
Other opposition groups have also denounced the “vindictive and politicized” decision to dissolve the council, saying it has been punished for its support for the legitimate demands of the people of Bahrain.
“The dissolving of the council will threaten the peace and security of the country and lead to more unrest,” they said according to the website of the Al Wefaq Society.
