Mohammad Jihad al-Laham made the remark while addressing the 9th Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU) conference in Tehran, adding the terrorists’ threaten not only Syria but the entire region.
The IIPU conference was officially launched in a ceremony in Tehran on Tuesday. Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani was the keynote speaker at the ceremony.
Parliamentary delegations from more than 40 countries are attending the international meeting.
Al-Laham said that Syria is facing international terrorism and that an international war has been imposed on the country.
He said some statistics made available by western countries shows that nearly 40000 terrorists from 83 countries are operating in Syria.
Al-Laham regretted that in some Muslim countries Jihad Fatwas are issued against Syria while not a single Fatwas has been issued to confront the Zionist regime.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Syria’s parliament speaker said the West, and the US in particular, want the issue of Palestine to be forgotten.
Syria has been the scene of deadly unrest since March 2011. According to figures released by the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have so far been killed and millions displaced due to the violence.
