Lashin, who is in Iran as an honorary guest of the 36th national Quran competition, told IQNA that it was very interesting for him to see the Iranian people’s warm reception of the Quranic contest.
The 36th national Quran competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran has been underway in Shiraz, Fars province since February 21.
Lashin also stressed the high level of the national Quranic event, especially in the category of Quran memorization.
He said it was an indication of good planning for the contest by the organizers.
“As I have been attending Quranic sessions in different parts of Fars province (during my stay), I have not been able to see the competitions in full. But what I saw in the memorization category was very interesting and I think it is one of the best Quranic competitions I have ever seen.”
He added that the special attention Iranians pay to learning the Quran by heart signifies a Quranic awakening in the country.
The Egyptian Qari said Iran has seen significant progress in the field of Quranic activities, including Quran competitions and recitation sessions.
Lashin noted that he has visited Iran several times and has witness the great progress Iran has made in the Quranic field.
He also stated that Egyptian Qaris are very much interested in visiting Iran and taking part in the country’s Quranic circles.
Asked about ways for enhancement of cooperation between the Quranic communities of Iran and Egypt, he said promotion of relations between the two Quranic communities requires support from governments.
He further referred to his Quran recitation in the presence of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khamenei last year, describing it as an honor to see the Supreme Leader in person.
Lashin started memorizing the Quran at Cairo’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center at the age of 6. He also learned the rules of recitation and continued his progress in Quran recitation.
In 2001, he won the first title in Egypt’s national Quran competition.
