This is according to Vice-president of the National Assembly of Burkina Faso Gilbert Noel Ouedraogo while speaking in an interview with IQNA.
He said those media that are trapped by the cultural colonialism propagate un-Islamic style of life instead of spreading the teachings that Muslims require.
Ouedraogo noted that progress and modernism have entered not only the field of technology but also the social and cultural fields.
He regretted that some Islamic media only pay attention to the West’s modern style of life instead of benefiting the scientific advances of the West.
The Burkina Faso official referred to cultural colonialism as the major problem the world is facing today, noting that countries intending to have ideological domination over others use media to impose their own lifestyle and even mind-set on others.
“Hence, without setting foot on a country’s soil, they (the domineering powers) take control of the colonized countries’ potentials and capabilities.”
Ouedraogo pointed to the crisis in Syria and said the powerful countries, in addition to cultural colonization, try to spread their dominance by supporting terrorist groups.
He warned that if Muslims remain negligent in this regard, there will be regrettable consequences.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ouedraogo referred to the situation of Muslims in Burkina Faso, saying that Muslims and Christians live peacefully together and there is no sign of sectarian and religious violence in the African country.
He said followers of different faiths in Burkina Faso attend one another’s ceremonies and observances, which is a sign of peaceful coexistence among them.
Vice-president of Burkina Faso’s National Assembly further hoped for an end to ethnic and religious conflicts in the world as “these conflicts only strengthen the front of colonialism”.
