The competition, held in memorization, recitation, Tajweed and interpretation of the Quran, had begun on Monday in the presence of a number of government officials, Sami bin Abdullah Al-Saleh, the Saudi Ambassador to Morocco, ambassadors of a number of other Arab and Islamic countries, Salim bin Mohammed Al-Malik, Director General of ISESCO, and a group of scholars.

A total of 83 Quran memorizers and reciters from 53 countries on five continents participated in the contest and competed in two categories.

They included memorizing the entire Quran with recitation and interpretation, and memorizing five consecutive parts with Tajweed.

This year's event saw the participation of 41 participants in the field of complete memorization of the Quran with recitation and interpretation, and 42 in the field of Tajweed with memorization of five parts.

The competition was held with the aim of promoting service to the Quran, encouraging memorization and contemplation of it, following the tradition of the Prophet (PBUH) in reciting and learning the Quran, and becoming familiar with the rhetorical aspects of the Quran.
