Seminary Students Quran Competition Kicks off in Karbala

The second annual Quran competition for seminary students started in the holy city of Karbala on Friday, March 7.

150 students of religious schools and seminaries from across Iraq are competition in the three-day contest, the website of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine reported.
Sayyid Morteza Jamaleddin, deputy of the Astan’s Dar-ol-Quran center, said students from the seminaries of Najaf, Karbala, Basra and Nassiriya have active participation in the Quranic event this year.
He added that the contest is being held in the categories of recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran.
Meanwhile, Sayyid Nazar Habl-al-Matin, director of Najaf religious schools, said the number of participants in this edition of the competition has doubled compared to the previous one.
He said a number of seminarians from Afghanistan and Algeria are among the contestants.
Habl-al-Matin added that the participation of so many young seminarians in the Quranic event demonstrates that the youths are pioneer on the path memorization and recitation of the Quran.
