Quran Contest Enters 2nd Week in Kenya

The preliminary stage of the Quran Competition in Kenya entered its second week at the Kambi Mosque – Kibra, Nairobi.

It brought together participants from Kibra and Kawangware areas. 20 participants in total from both areas took part in this stage.
The program started with a speech from the Imam of Kambi Mosque, Sh.Yusuf Nasor. He said that the main objective of any Quran competition is not to get a winner or a loser but to promote the culture of reading, understanding and memorizing the Holy Quran.
He said that Allah says that the best amongst you are those who learn and teach the Quran and wished all participants all the best in the competition.
The second speech was by Mwinyi Ramadhani, member of the Cultural Council of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He told the participants that the objective of the competition was to inculcate the culture of reading the Holy Quran.
He also pointed out that the Cultural Council of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who are the organizers of the program, are looking for a Quran reciter and a Quran memorizer to represent Kenya at the Tehran International Quran Competition in Iran to be held in May 2014.
Next, one of the judges, Sh Mwamtunza spoke to the participants and explained to them to observe among other things, good voice, ahkam, makharij khuruf, and fluency.
Finally the manager of Madrassatu Ulumul Islamiyya Kibra affiliated to Kambi Mosque, Sheikh Juma Khamis, gave a vote of thanks. He thanked the Cultural Council for coming up with the Quran Competition because it is an important aspect of the Muslim Ummah. He encouraged Muslims present to be where the Quran is recited because he who reads and listens to the Quran all get thawaabs.
He also advised all Muslims to love the Quran adding “If you become a friend of the Quran, the Quran will be your friend and it will be your witness on the Day of Judgment.”
He thanked the Cultural Council once again for choosing Kambi Mosque as a venue for the Kibra preliminaries and promised to cooperate with the Cultural Council in their future programs.
The shortlisted participants were 3; one memorizer, Suleiman Burhan from Kibra, and two Qaris, Suleiman Ali from Kibra and Husein Salat from Kawangware.
On the sidelines of the program, there were several performances by young Madrassa students.
