Close Competition among Six Countries in Int'l Quran Contest
Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Masoud Mirian, who heads the technical committee of the contest, told IQNA that contenders from Iran, Malaysia, Tanzania, Iraq and Egypt are vying for the top rank in this category.
He said the level of the competition in the final round of this year's competition is so high that it cannot be compared to the previous editions.
In the memorization category, too, the majority of the contenders were very good and those who made it to the final round scored 90 and above out of 100, the official said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Hojat-ol-Islam Mirian noted that the competition's education work group has organized several courses on the sidelines of the contest featuring subjects such as ethics in the Quran, Quranic life skills, etc.
The 31st edition of the Islamic Republic of Iran's International Holy Quran Competition kicked off in the capital, Tehran, on Monday.
120 reciters and memorizers of the Quran representing more than 70 countries are competing in the contest, which will run until June 2.
The annual competition is held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization to encourage the public to read the Holy Quran and to act upon the teachings of the Holy Quran.
