Malaysia Int'l Quran Contest Kicks off

The 56th edition of Malaysia's International Holy Quran Competition was launched in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, June 16.

 In an address to the opening ceremony, Malaysian King Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah called on Muslims to unite to face the enemies of Islam who were constantly looking for ways to destroy the religion.

In his speech at the launching of the 56th International Quran reading competition, he said unless the people united, the success promised by Allah could not be attained, Bernama news agency reported.
"I call on the people to unite. Muslims must return to the basics and be prepared to face all obstacles and the threat of the enemy.”
He also called on Muslims to return to the teachings of Islam whose people were of balanced character.
The five-day competition sees the participation of 68 people from 52 countries in two categories.
