In an interview with IQNA, Ali al-Ali noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been holding numerous Quran competitions at the national and international levels.
He said that such contests help to demonstrate the capabilities and talents of Quran reciters and memorizers.
The cleric further reiterated that the Muslim students' Quran contest is an international event that helps to boost Quranic activities among Muslim university students.
Al-Ali urged for enhancing the competition by inviting sponsors and also by working to elevate the event's scientific level.
He also urged that as well as Quran recitation and memorization, a category of Quranic research be added to the contest.
The Kuwaiti scholar underlined that by refuting the extremist Takfiri ideologies, Quranic studies can help to prevent the spread of these ideas.
The fifth edition of the International Holy Quran Competition for Muslims Students is scheduled to be held in Iran in January 2015 by the Iranian Academics' Quranic Activities Organization.
The Iranian cities of Isfahan, Tehran, Mashhad and Tabriz hosted the previous four editions of the international competition.
