New Mosque Opens In Pocatello
This is the only mosque in Eastern Idaho. The next closet mosque is in Logan, Utah, a two hour drive.
The new mosque has the capacity to hold about 200 worshipers at a time, and won't just be used for prayer.
The mosque will be a place for celebrations of Ramadan, and be available to the entire community, Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
The project has been in the works for over five years, and has been a long time coming for the Muslim community in Pocatello.
“People that have been in this community for over 30 years it’s like a dream come true," said Daniel Hummel secratery of Islamic Society. "If you talk to them it’s just like 'I can’t believe it'.”
Anybody is welcome to attend prayers on Friday afternoons. The first prayer will be in Arabic around 1:20 PM with an English prayer following at 2:30 PM
“Now we have a big Mosque. Big traditional mosque," said Abdullah Althawad. "This is a brand new one so we are very excited here."
