The Law and Political Sciences Faculty of the University of Tehran hosted the event, which underlined the need for strategies to fight extremism and violence.
Ahmad Naqibzadeh, secretary of the conference, in an address hailed the fact that the call for confronting violence has been raised from the Islamic Iran, a country with a 3000-year-old civilization.
He hoped that the gathering will be a step toward dealing with the blind violence that the region is witnessing today.
Nasir Ahmad, Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Iran, Ali Reza Moayyeri, director of the Globalization Studies Center, Ali Yunesi, special assistant to Iranian president in ethnic and religious minority affairs, and Elham Aminzadeh, Iran’s vice president for legal affairs were among other speakers at the conference.
They referred to Islam as the main advocate of peace and condemned all kinds of violence and extremism in the world.
The speakers also said the enemies of Islam have been behind the rise of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
They further called for introduction of an accurate definition of terrorism in the world.
The Iranian capital city is set to another such international conference themed World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE) on December 9-10.
