The Muslims of Lebanon will not fall for the plans to create strife and divide among them, Lebanese Grand Mufti Abdel-Latif Derian said Tuesday after meeting with a prominent Shia figure.

“We and his excellence the imam agree that Islamic unity must go beyond theories and slogans, and it must take be actualized in the awareness of all Muslims,” Derian said after meeting with Sheikh Abdel-Amir Qabalan, the deputy head of the Higher Shiite Islamic Council.
The mufti stressed that the culture of Islamic unity should be spread and propagated to all Muslim sects, Lebanon’s Daily Star reported.
“We [believe in] the same religion, the same book and the same prophet,” Derian said. “And our concerns and responsibilities are the same.”
“Sectarian strife will not happen in Lebanon," he added. “And whoever is bidding on it will fail.”
Qabalan echoed the mufti’s words, stressing that “Muslims are loving brothers, and they should work together to rise with Lebanon, to protect it by preserving national unity.”
The Shia imam said such unity would be the best weapon against both the Zionist and the Takfiri projects, which he said were two faces of the same coin.
