Bahrain’s Shia leader Ayatollah Sheikh Issa Qassem criticized the country’s ruling regime for killing, arresting and torturing innocent Bahrainis.

“The Al Khalifa regime is claiming to be a democratic government while Bahraini people are being denied their legitimate rights,” Ayatollah Qassem said in his Friday prayers sermons in Manama.
“The regime has ridiculed the country’s people. On the one hand, it kills, arrests and tortures people and on the other hand invites people to take part in elections,” he said.
The Al Khalifa regime plans to hold its parliamentary elections on November 22 but opposition groups have vowed to boycott the vote.
Since mid-February 2011, thousands of protesters have held numerous demonstrations in the streets of Bahrain, calling on the Al Khalifa royal family to step down from power. The protesters have also slammed the Manama regime’s arrest and torture of political activists.
Many Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on peaceful demonstrations.
