Moderation, Essential Characteristics of Allamah Balaghi
--Being reasonable and adopting an intellectual approach to interpretation of the Holy Quran led Allamah Balaghi to succeed in rejecting all kinds of skepticism in his excellent Quran interpretation called “Ala or-Rahman fi Tafsir el-Quran”
Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Javad Balaghi managed to carefully examine opinions of Muslim intellectuals thanks to his logical attitude towards Islam. On the one hand, he is supposed to be the pioneer of unity between different Islamic sects; on the other hand, he is considered as the first contemporary cleric to introduce the idea of dialogue among monotheistic religions.
Allamah Balaghi beautifully illustrated various dimensions of human life concerning this earthly world as well as the Hereafter in his major work, the Holly Quran exegesis. During his whole life he discussed different issues with intellectuals and philosophers from other religions, enormously influencing those who read his writings. As a result, many of his readers decided freely to convert to Islam.
Ayatollah Balaghi had a cosmopolitan world vision and considered Islam as an unshakable and unique doctrine that brings salvation to humankind. In this regard, he himself tried to embody the following verse of the Nobel Quran: “Verily, believers are brothers of one another”. He benefited from a profound knowledge beyond religious fanaticism using his own initiative to innovate discussions on Quranic themes.
Despite the fact that he could not finish his Quran Interpretation, he inspired certain high profile icons, paving the way for the establishment of a new school of Quran interpretation. Among his prominent disciples were Allamah Tabatabaei, writer of Almizan, Ayatollah Khoei, author of “Al-Bayan fi Tafsir el Quran”, and Ayatollah Sabzevari, author of “Mavahib er-Rahman fi Tafsir el-Quran”.
He had studied all Quranic sciences before he embarked on interpretation of the Quran. Putting emphasis on the miraculous aspects of Quran, he developed the subject as the focal point of his studies. He carried out a deep research regarding the six-dimensional miracles of Quran including with themes like history, non-contradiction, legislation, ethics, and exact future prediction.
He has also discussed the issue of Quran itself as the most perfect miracle ever sent by the Lord to the Earth, enumerating five exclusive advantages of the Holy Quran compared to the other divine miracles. Referring to the verse of Quran that indicates the indisputable fact that no one is able to bring a single surah like it, he argues that Quran is self-sufficient to prove itself as the biggest miracle of the Holly Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (PBUH).
