This is an idea that signifies Islamic revival in Tunisian community. Tunisia is a country where the Islamic Awakening Tide was initiated and where the voice of the justice-seeking Muslim and Arab community began to be heard.
Now that the Islamic Awakening Tide has spread all over the Arab world, we are witnessing agitated reaction of some Arab and western leaders. Everything has been undergoing changes in the Middle East and differences are getting wider in the Arab world. While Qatar’s Emir shakes hands with the Zionist officials, whose hands are stained with the blood of Palestinians, Tunisia’s al-Ghannushi talks of full cutting of ties with the Zionist entity.
Tunisia under Ben Ali’s rule was an important base for the Zionist regime, because it was Israel’s second biggest economic partner among Islamic countries after Egypt. Now, Tunisia’s new leadership seeks change. Al-Ghannushi’s remarks concerning the necessity of Palestinians’ return to their lands is a rare occurring among Arab leaders and one that has caused reactions in the Zionist circles. But what are Zionists really afraid of?
The Islamic Awakening of Tunisia has intensified Israel’s problems for different reasons. First of all, the Islamic uprising in Tunisia led to the severance of the country’s ties with Israel after years of close relations during Ben Ali’s era.
Second, Tunisians’ movement has turned to a model for other Arab nations. Third, Tunisia is trying to combine democracy and religious teachings and this example can be followed by other Arab nations, something that Israel and the West have always feared. Fourth, Israel is well aware of the fact that Arab masses are against the Zionist regime. That is why Zionist leaders never like to see victory of popular movements and establishment of democratic institutions in Arab countries. What Zionists seek is despotic regimes that are submissive, not to their people but to the arrogant powers.
Overall, the developments in Tunisia and Egypt have been influential in other Middle East countries and the Zionist regime, which is worried about these events, seeks to get closer to dictatorships in the Arab world that reject reforms. However, Zionist polices will only add to the Arab nations’ anger at Israel.
