“Expressions of Islam in Contemporary African-American Communities” Conference at Harvard

The Alwaleed Islamic Studies Program hosts its Fourth Annual Conference on April 7 & 8 and is entitled “Expressions of Islam in Contemporary African-American Communities.”
Speakers will explore and highlight the varied experiences of African American Muslims in the United States. The conference will not only showcase research on African American Muslims by leading academics, but will also feature contemporary artists and community activists who speak directly to the subject through their work.
The conference is sponsored by the Alwaleed Bin Talal Islamic Studies Program at Harvard University, the W.E.B. Dubois Institute at Harvard and the Department of African American Studies and is free and open to the public.
African Muslims Enslaved in America: Realities and Legacies, The Black Muslim Encounter and Why It Matters, Narratives of Black Muslim women, Shii African American Communities, African American Culture in Islam, New Paradigm of Muslim Community Leadership and African-American Muslim Leadership are among the subjects to be discussed in the conference.
