Terrorist Blast in Karbala
A sound bomb went off on Saturday night in the holy city of Karbala, targeting the house of grand Ayatollah Sistani’s representative in the city.
No one was hurt in the blast and terrorists failed to harm Ayatollah Sistani’s representative Seyyed Muhammad Safi, who was the target of the attack, Bratha news agency reported.
The blast, however, caused damage to nearby buildings. Security forces surrounded the site after the blast and are now working to arrest the perpetrators.
Assassination attempts on representatives of Shia sources of emulation in Iraq have intensified in recent days. Also on Saturday, the house of Hassan Sa’doun, representative of grand Ayatollah Muhammad Saeed Al-Hakim in the province of Meysan was targeted by terrorists.
The province’s Police Chief Muhnad Al-Hashemi said the police department has taken extensive measures to ensure security for important figures in the province.
Last week, a bomb blasted in the mausoleum of Martyr Seyyed Muhammad Baqer Hakim, former head of Iraq’s Supreme Islamic Council, left one of the guards dead.
