The called for Ibn Zahim to be arrested and put on trial for his remarks, which were published on the Twitter network, esharh website reported.
Fahd Abul-Assari, a social activist, said that by making the false remarks, Ibn Zahim intended to foment sedition.
“It is highly regrettable that at a time when Islamophobia, crusades against Islam, and desecration of Islamic sanctities have intensified, some are fomenting discord among Muslims by spreading lies against Shia Muslims.”
He stressed Ibn Zahim must know that brothers in other Islamic sects, and above all Sunnis, are supportive of Shi’ites and will not allow the enemies of Islam and their mercenaries to exploit the differences.
Munsi Al-Hassoun, a rights activist, also slammed Ibn Zahim’s remarks and urged for his arrest.
He said seditionist remarks like those made by Ibn Zahim are efforts aimed at getting Saudi Arabian citizens preoccupied with sideline issues and away from real issues in society.
Al-Hassoun stressed that the Wahabi sheikh’s remarks are illegal and against the Sharia.
Ibn Zahim’s remarks on Twitter has caused widespread condemnation in Saudi Arabia and among social network users.
