The “Shia Art and Civilization” Congress is intended to explicate the fundamental principles of art in the Islamic world that are primarily rooted in Shia teachings and doctrines, head of the Research Center for Islamic Art and Culture told IQNA.
Iraj Dadashi also said that the congress would be held for the first time at both national and international levels.
“It seeks to present a historical record of artistic fundamentals in Islam and their corresponding Shia origins,” he went on to say, adding: “A review of different occupational guilds and unions in the past will reveal a systematized order in them which is rooted in religious and Islamic doctrines.”
Referring to the main objective of the congress as finding the principles and basic frameworks of Shia art, he noted: “This does not mean to ignore the art and civilization belonging to other Muslims in the world; however, we need to specify the foundations upon which our art has been formed.”
“The artistic theories that are used in today’s world are more or less based on Western ideologies that emerged at a specific time in history, and this shows that our artists used to rely on different principles in their profession.”
Dadashi went on to say that “the concept of art in the past referred to a set of artistic occupations and industries that were based on specific regulations within their guilds and groups and the congress seeks to explicate and discuss about those fundamentals.”
“What matters is to recognize the historical background and principles of our art, so that we can revive our artistic traditions to preserve them in the best manner,” he further said.
