This is according to Majid Mahmoudian, religious researcher and psychologist, who highlighted the medical aspects of the Holy Quran and Ahlul-Bayt’s (AS) teachings in treating man’s physical and psychological problems.
Citing verse 16 of Surah Qaf “And certainly We created man, and We know what his mind suggests to him, and We are nearer to him than his life-vein", he reiterated that the Divine image of man in the Holy Quran is the best possible presentation of man’s nature which can be applied in real life once implemented through scientific media and approaches.
“The existing scientific potentials are far less than the Quranic ones in psychological spheres,” he went on to say, adding: “Attempts are being made to disclose the miraculous treatments in the Holy Book that can prove effective in curing psychological disorders.”
“A number of scientific research projects have already been conducted on the topic over the last two years, and the results show that Quran-based treatments and consultations can be extremely helpful in reducing the vulnerability of mentally-ill patients and treating most—if not all—diseases.”
“The closer one can get to God, the more one’s psychological disorders will reduce; using the Quranic treatments can also prevent such illnesses in healthy individuals and help them enhance their personality,” Mahmoudian further asserted.
Expressing concern that the issue can be open to abuse, he said: “We should try to expose the individuals to the scientific principles of Quranic treatment so that they can consciously apply them to their real life.”
“Such an approach is based on reasoning and consciousness not magic or miracles; therefore, any treatment of consultation should be offered in a logical, scientific way to encourage people to recognize their own defects and disorders and get rid of them using religious teachings.”
Mahmoudian went on to say that qualified experts and psychologists would be invited to learn about the approach in various educational courses and workshops, and would then test it on different patients and report the results for the completion of the model.
“We are in search of a comprehensive religious model to be used in psychology which can include all the techniques and processes of treating diseases and health care using a scientific method,” he further asserted.
