Crowds Flock to Aid Quran Project
Around 1,500 people descended on Rivermead Leisure Centre to support a charity raising money for the free distribution of English translations of the Qur'an to the Reading community.
The Qur'an Project Reading, part of a national organization, held the event at the Richfield Avenue complex on Sunday, April 15.
More than £6,000 was raised, with visitors enjoying a range of attractions including arm wrestling, cake decorating, hook-a-duck and henna painting.
A number of local and national Muslim businesses and products were also showcased at the event.
Zahir Butt, project lead, said: “The response was overwhelming. This was the first time that an event of this scale had been put on in Reading and offered many challenges to the Reading Qur'an Project team.
“Some of the main attractions were a great success, especially the mega slide and gladiator joust which saw the longest queues. The food court and ladies’ chill-out zones were also exceptionally busy.”
