Seminary and university scholar Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Taqi Fa’ali made the remark while addressing the 7th session on “faith-based lifestyle”, adding that Taqwa is a spiritual way introduced by the Holy Quran for increasing Rizq (sustanance) and wealth.
He further elaborated on the factors effective in shaping one’s lifestyle and said one of the factors that has led to the change in lifestyle is machines.
“In order to see the influence of machines in lifestyle, you can compare the life of families who live in the depths of forests or isolated areas with those living in cities,” the cleric said. “In fact, machines that are made by man are now shaping man’s life and his feelings.”
He added that the media and advertisement are among other factors that are effective in shaping lifestyle.
When the media enter a society, they create certain new conditions in the society and affect how people live, talk, look and even how they think, Hojat-ol-Islam Fa’ali said.
He noted that when these new instruments emerge, there is a feeling of need to them and this feeling of need creates a lifestyle.
The scholar referred to sports as another issue that is influential in the lifestyle of people. “Sports has moved from sportsmanship to championship and from championship to professionalism. In the past, sports was related to the nature but today, one of the characteristics of sports is separation from the nature.”
He said management of feelings is another aspect of lifestyle. “In the past, there was not so much talk about feelings but today, the issue of feelings has become a prominent topic in psychology and in Irfan (mysticism).
Hojat-ol-Islam Fa’ali noted that there are extensive projects about happiness, anger, fear, etc, in psychology and mysticism, adding that according to the Quran’s verses, one of the most important ways for achieving peace of mind is going to the nature.
“The Quran regards relation with God as the only way for reaching peace and advises man to look at the nature and see the power of God.”
Hygiene and cleanliness, gifts, attire and fashion, sexual behaviors, Hijab, health and eating, were among other factors that he mentioned as being influential in shaping one’s lifestyle.
The 7th session on “faith-based lifestyle” was held at the conference hall of the Iranian Academics Quranic Activities Organization in Tehran.
