Interfaith Dialogue Forum between Iran & Austrian Catholic Church Held in Tehran

The 4th Round of religious dialogue forum between Iran and Austria’s Catholic Church was held on Sunday, February 17, in Tehran.
Head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) Mohammad Baqer Khorramshad, Supreme Leader’s Representative in Muslim World Affairs Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri and Austria’s Ambassador to Tehran Box Baum were present at the forum, in which experts and scholars from the two countries discussed the theme of the forum, namely “religion, ethics and law”.
Vienna University Professor Wolfgang Muller Fank in his paper presented at the forum analyzed the function of religion in the field of culture.
Titled “Religion and Ethics in Western Civil Societies”, his paper also pointed to the relation between religion and modernity as well as how global modernity is.
Tehran University Professor Ali Asghar Ezzatpour presented his paper “Respecting Other Religions in View of Islam.
Head of Austria’s Iranology Institute Flourian Shwartz and Imam Sadeq (AS) University Scholar Abbas Gohari also presented their papers titled “Human Dignity and Existence of Differences in Iranian Tradition” and “Necessity of Respecting Religious Sanctities in View of Imamiya Fiqh (jurisprudence) and Islamic Ethics”, respectively.
Next, head of the ICRO took the podium, saying that Iranophobia, Shia-Phobia and Islamophobia are three radicalism-based phenomena, the Islamic Republic of Iran is directly facing.
He underlined that Iran believes in dialogue among religions and worries about lack of it.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Khorramshad referred to Islamic ethics as being the source of personal and social spirituality.
Ayatollah Taskhiri also gave a brief speech, saying that disrespecting religious sanctities is tantamount to desecrating human dignity.
Representatives of Austria’s Catholic Church made a trip to the holy city of Qom on Monday to continue the second part of the interfaith dialogue forum there.
They also plan to meet with the scholars and students of the University of Tehran’s Faculty of World Studies.
