The Secretary General of the Organization Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu addressing the Contact Group meeting on Rohingya in Jeddah said that he is planning to hold a meeting of Foreign Ministers on 14th April to give a categorical message that the OIC was behind them in their cause and the member countries are ready to take all necessary measures and actions to deal with the situation.
The establishment of the OIC Contact Group on Rohingyas was the step in the right direction as they had been suffering since long and no neighboring country is ready to provide them refuge. What is more worrisome is that the Buddhist Monks are leading attacks against Muslims which is negation of Budh religion that preaches peace and non violence.
The new escalation of violence against the country’s Muslim population saw mosques burned, houses razed and charred bodies left lying in the streets, in what many witnesses described to a large extent as part of a well-organized campaign.
The UN special rapporteur on Myanmar human rights Thomas Ojea Quintana issued a statement saying that he has received reports of State involvement in some of the acts of violence.
Vijay Nambiar, the UN’s top adviser on Myanmar who toured the violence-hit town of Meiktila on Sunday, agreed that much of this violence was planned and called on the government to punish those responsible for the tragedy.
It is astonishing that the US and other western countries that had been crying howl for Aung San Suu Khi’s house arrest are keeping mum over the ethnic cleansing.
