Addressing the 14th session of a series of lectures tilted “Role of Ethics in Economic System in View of Islam”, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyyed Hossein Mirmoezzi added that when everyone is grateful, they will give alms and then there will be no poor in society.
“In addition, the government will do no injustice and use all its power and financial recourses at the service of the people.”
He underlined the importance of thankfulness in the Islamic culture, adding that the significance of being thankful is so much that God, the Almighty, says in verse 152 of Surah Al-Baqara “So remember me, I will remember you. Give thanks to me and do not be ungrateful towards me.”
Member of the Higher Council of Islamic-Iranian Model of Progress quoted Imam Sadeq (AS) as saying that the dearest people before God are those who are thankful when they receive a blessing and exercise fortitude when they get in trouble.
He also referred to verse 147 of Surah Al-Nisa “What, would Allah do with punishing you if you thank and believe! Allah is the Thanker, the Knower,” saying that if one is thankful, God will never punish him.
“That is, thankfulness removes punishment and cause man to be safe from it.”
Hojat-ol-Islam Mirmoezzi added that Fitnas (seditions) occur when people are not thankful. “Being thankful is a means for safeguarding against Fitna. When the Right and falsehood are so mixed that one finds it difficult to distinguish them from one another, through thankfulness one is guided by God toward the straight path.”
He also said that thankfulness increases the blessings that one receives.
“Based on verse 7 of Surah Ibrahim ‘…if you give thanks, I will increase you’, when one gives alms, his wealth will increase. If our calculations are not based on Islamic teachings, Satan keeps tempting us (not to give alms), telling us that by doing it we will get poor.”
