Guatemala Recognizes Palestine as Independent State

The Republic of Guatemala recognized Palestine as an independent country, shemsfm website has reported.
It is the 5th country in the Latin America and Caribbean region and the 133rd in the world to have recognized Palestine.
The country’s foreign ministry issued a statement saying that Guatemala has decided to join other countries in the region to recognize Palestine as an independent and sovereign state.
It also hoped that the international community would work out a viable and practical plan for putting an end to the crisis in the occupied lands.
Five out of the seven countries in central America, including Nicaragua, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala have so far recognized Palestine as a sovereign state.
