Kuwait Nat’l Quran Competition Opens in Capital City

The 17th edition of Kuwait’s national Quran contest began in the capital city on Monday, April 15.
It is held under the patronage of the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in the categories of memorization and recitation of the Quran, KUNA reported.
The competition aims to promote the Quran and reciting and memorizing the Holy Book among different age groups.
Speaking in a press conference on Monday, Secretary General of Kuwait Awqaf Secretariat, Abdul-Mohsen Al-Jarallah Al-Kharafi , said the Quran and Quranic Sciences Waqf Fund has sponsored this edition of the competition, like the previous 16 editions.
He said the competition awards, which amount to 100,000 Kuwaiti Dinars this year, will be given to the winners at the closing ceremony.
Also speaking at the press conference was Abdul-Rahman Al-Hashash, deputy head of the competition’s permanent committee, who said 32 insttititions have contributed to holding the Quranic event.
