Ayatollah Sayyed Ahmad Khatami in his second sermon at the University of Tehran Campus on Friday referred to last week’s explosions in Boston, the US, and said the stand of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as stated by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, is to condemn the killing f innocent people anywhere in the world.
“We condemn the killing of innocent people wherever it happens, whether in the US, Syria, Iraq, Pakistan or Afghanistan,” he underlined.
“But the behavior we see from the US and Europe toward human beings today is hypocritical. You (Europe and the US) object to the killings in America but send weapons to Syria to be used to kill innocent women and children atrociously.
“How can this paradox be explained? This means that you exploit the slogans about fighting terrorism and about human rights and this behavior of yours is condemned.”
He said people in the US and Europe who have seen for themselves how unacceptable insecurity is should force their governments to stop sending weapons to Syria.
Elsewhere in his sermon, Ayatollah Khatami referred to the upcoming presidential elections in the country, saying that in an Islamic system, election campaigns should be based on Islamic principles, criticisms should be fair, and slogans of the candidates should be practical.
He said in the West, candidates do just about everything to win elections but in an Islamic campaign, ethical principles should be observed.
The senior cleric also warned the potential candidates not to seek the West’s support because then people would abandon them.
Elsewhere in his sermon, Ayatollah Khatami pointed to the Army ay and said people like the country’s Armed Forces who have made sacrifices to defend the country.
