Course on Confronting Extremism for Belgian Imams
Imams (prayer leaders) in Belgium’s Flanders region will take a course this summer to learn how to confront extremist ideas.
According to rtl website, the country’s government has decided to hold the course after news spread that some Muslim Belgians have joined terrorists in Syria.
Imams who take the course learn how to fight extremism among the youth and how to guide young Muslims.
The region’s parliament has allocated 100,000 Euro for organization of the course as well as establishing Islamic centers in universities so that young Muslims who want to study in religious fields can continue their education in Belgium.
Last week, terrorists took hostage a Belgian scholar who had gone to Syria to return several Belgian Muslim youth to central European country.
