Speaking to IQNA, Ayatollah Mohsen Gharavian referred to the recent raid on the grave of a companion of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) near Damascus, Syria, warning that such actions signify the wickedness and evilness of the perpetrators.
He warned that Muslims must be vigilant not to get trapped in sectarian and ethnic conflicts.
Ayatollah Gharavian said the world Zionism and the United States that are opposed to Islam have found sowing discord and spreading sectarianism as the best means for weakening the Muslim Ummah.
He regretted that some Muslims who lack logic and reason have been deceived by enemies’ divisive ploys.
The seminary scholar stressed that past experience shows that by committing such actions, the perpetrators will gain nothing but will actually lose a lot.
“They desecrated the Askariyayn shrines in Samarra but it only caused Shi’ites to become more steadfast in their beliefs.”
He said people rebuilt the shrines with their own money and that will be repeated for the graves of Hujr Ibn Uday and Jafar Ibn Abi Taleb.
Wahhabi extremists desecrated the grave of Hujr Ibn Uday last week. The militants attacked the mausoleum and exhumed the grave of Hujr ibn Adi in the Damascus suburb of Adra, and took his remains to an unknown location.
Two days later, radical Takfiri groups desecrated the shrine of Jafar Ibn Abi Taleb, known as Jafar Tayyar, in Jordan.
