“Islam in Belgium: Between Prejudice and Ambiguity” Conference Planned

A conference titled “Islam in Belgium: Between Prejudice and Ambiguity” will be held today, May 6 at Louvain-la-Neuve University in Belgium.
According to pageshalal website, The GEMU LLN (Group of Muslim students at UCL - Louvain-la-Neuve) will organize the program at 7:30 p.m. local time.
The conference will investigate the status of Islam in the country and wrong views about Islam which have been spread in the society.
Believing that wrong beliefs and prejudices have been developed among the people by the politicians and the media, the organizers aim to present a true picture of Islam to people.
History of Islam in Belgium and challenges that Muslims face in observing their religious rituals will be among the themes to be investigated at the conference.
Farid El Asri, PhD in Anthropology at UCL, a member of CISMOC (Interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Islam in the contemporary world) and IACCHOS (Institute for the Analysis of Change in Contemporary and Historical Societies) will talk about the history of Muslims’ presence in Belgium and the contributions of Muslim civilization in Europe.
Mohamed Ramousi, graduate in theology from the UCL, will explain, among other things, how the young Belgian Muslims live their faith in this country.
A young Muslim who has recently converted to Islam will also talk about his experiences and his understanding of Islam.
