Saudi Shia Scholars Rap Desecration of Holy Sites
Shia scholars in Saudi Arabia strongly condemned raids on shrines and Islamic sanctities, especially the desecration of the grave of Hujr Ibn Uday in Syria.
Sheikh Faisal Al-Awami condemned the sacrilege and regarded it as an indication of the evilness of the perpetrators.
“We are today faced with a new abuse and that is defiling the sanctity of one of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) companions and a person who would always defend Imam Ali (AS) and was martyred on this path.”
Sayyed Hassan Al-Nimr Al-Mousawi, Friday prayer leader of Hamza Bin Abdul Mutalib Mosque in Sihat, was another Shia figure who slammed the incident and said exhuming the grave of Hujr Ibn Uday will not undermine his status but rather shows that he chose a right path that was in the interest of the Muslim Ummah.
Wahhabi extremists desecrated the grave of Hujr Ibn Uday last week. The militants attacked the mausoleum and exhumed the grave of Hujr ibn Adi in the Damascus suburb of Adra, and took his remains to an unknown location.
Two days later, radical Takfiri groups desecrated the shrine of Jafar Ibn Abi Taleb, known as Jafar Tayyar, in Jordan.
