Addressing worshipers at the University of Tehran Campus on May 10, Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami added that Shia and Sunni scholars unanimously condemned the sacrilegious move.
The Zionists sought to create sectarian sedition but the Shia community shoed an intelligent reaction to this incidence, he stated.
Member of the Assembly of Experts said such actions are rooted in the Wahabi line of thought, adding that the British created Wahabism a century ago and now it is expected from Sunnis to clearly disavow Wahabis.
Elsewhere in his sermon, Ayatollah Khatami referred to the Zionist strikes against Syria, saying that it had positive outcomes.
“E everyone realized that the anti-Assad current is a Zionist one and this strengthened the resistance front.”
He said even Saudi Arabia that sends terrorists to Syria had to condemn the Israeli attack.
The interim Friday prayer leader of Tehran also pointed to the upcoming presidential election in the country and the election campaigns should meet the standards of the Islamic Republic.
He said those who register to run for president should be committed to the law based on which the Guardian Council is to decide whether someone is qualified for running or not.
Ayatollah Khatami urged people to choose the fittest candidate for presidency and cited faith in God, commitment to the law, devotion to Velayat, and capability to run the country as the criteria for being fit for presidency.
He went on to say that the issue of ethics is also an important factor in all instances where there is selection, such as choosing a friend, a spouse, a member of Parliament, etc.
